The first estimate is a starting point
An initial assessment may identify visible damage while leaving hidden components to be inspected later. Ask whether the schedule begins at drop-off, after approval or after parts arrive. Those are different milestones.
Parts and approvals
Availability can vary by part and vehicle. If insurance is involved, additional findings may need documentation and a coverage decision. Ask which items are ready and which dependencies could change the planned dates.
The repair sequence
Body work, preparation, refinishing, reassembly and related checks need to happen in a practical order. Some vehicles also require diagnostic or calibration work. Ask which stages apply to your repair rather than relying on an average found online.
Plan for communication
Confirm your preferred contact method, when you should expect the next update and whom to call with questions. Tell the shop if your transportation arrangements have a deadline. Rental coverage and availability should be confirmed separately.
At pickup
Review the completed work and final paperwork. Ask for applicable care instructions and written warranty terms. If questions remain, discuss them before leaving so you know exactly what has been completed.
